Flavour Experience – Sicily

Spend a weekend in Western Sicily and learn the secrets of its traditional recipes and flavours!

Day 1: Arrival in Sicily

You arrive at Palermo or Trapani Airport and are transferred to Palermo or Trapani. At the hotel where you will stay the night, you enjoy a welcome drink after checking in.

Day 2: Couscous Cooking Class, Erice & Mazara del Vallo

After enjoying your hotel breakfast, you head for an ancient flour mill in Valderice, where you will participate in a cooking class where a professional chef will teach you how to prepare couscous and other traditional dishes of the Trapani area. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your labour in the form of a lunch.

As you leave the mill behind, you visit the medieval town of Erice, where you will among other things enjoy a sweet tasting in one of a very famous "pasticceria" (pastry shop).

Finally, you pay a visit to Mazara del Vallo, where you experience the traditional arrival of fishing boats at the pier and the ensuing fish market, before enjoying a dinner at the hotel where you'll sleep in Mazara del Vallo.

Day 3: Motya, the Salt Road & Marsala Wineries

Following the breakfast at your hotel, you will travel on so-called the Salt Road, a road that leads along the coast, past windmills and bright mountains of salt.

You reach the Motya Island by boat, a small island that was once a Punic town and is now a very important archaeological site. Lunch is served in a nearby traditional restaurant. In the afternoon you make a visit the Florio winery of Marsala, including a wine tasting, before returning to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 4: Traditional Sicilian Cuisine, Wines & Departure

In the morning you have breakfast and check out of the hotel before attending a cooking class in a wonderful vineyard situated between Palermo and Trapani where a professional chef will be teaching you some of Sicily's most traditional recipes. Right before it starts, however, it will be possible to visit the winery and take part in a tasting of its products.
