Gastronomic Routes of Etna – Sicily

Discover the baroque cuisine of Eastern Sicily!

Day 1: Arrival in Sicily

On the first day you arrive at Catania Airport and are transferred to your hotel in Catania for a welcome drink. Your dinner is served at the hotel.

Day 2: Street Food Tour of Catania & Cooking Class in an Agriturismo

The morning of day two begins with a street food tour of Catania, showing you not only the baroque treasures of its historical centre, but also its delicious local street food, which is famous throughout Italy, from “granite” in the early morning to “arancino” at lunch time (thanks to the quantity and variety of street food, you won’t need any lunch).

Afterwards you return to the hotel and in the afternoon you head over to a traditional agriturismo close to Etna, overlooking the Ionian Sea. There you will receive a cooking lesson from a professional chef dedicated to the most important traditional dishes of Eastern Sicily. The session ends with your enjoying a dinner consisting of the things you cooked, after which you return your hotel in Catania.

Day 3: The “Barocco Cuisine” & Modica Chocolate

After your hotel breakfast, you head for Ragusa and the southern side of the island, to the so-called “Baroque Triangle”. Today’s cooking lesson will be held in the countryside and be focused on local recipes and once again you will enjoy the fruits of your labour in the form of a meal. In the afternoon, you receive a guided tour of Modica, which is famous for its baroque architecture, but also for its characteristic chocolates and other sweets. Our chocolate tastings surely aren’t to be missed! This is followed by a guided visit to Noto and its cathedral, and then it’s back to the hotel in Catania, where dinner will be served.

Day 4: The wines and flavours of Etna, Taormina & Departure

The morning begins with breakfast and check-out from the hotel, after which you will make a wine tour of Europe’s highest volcano, in addition discovering wonderful landscapes and products typical of the region, such as honey, mushrooms, and so on. For lunch we will move to Taormina, where you can also use some free time to take a stroll or to enjoy the wonderful nearby beaches, before you return to Catania Airport in time for your flight home. Arrivederci, Sicilia!
