Ski Top Moments Experience in Bardonecchia!

Karina Imschoot - the founder of Piedmont Travel, which is the new name for what used to be Made In Italy Travel - has lived in Piedmont for six years now, not in the ski area of course but in Langhe, in the region around Alba. On Sundays, in the heat of summer at 36 degrees Celsius, she allowed herself as a Belgian and her Australian shepherd of Dutch descent a pampering moment. She stayed in one of the top Piedmont ski resorts for panoramic views and opted for long walks, at this instance in the green nature. This knowledge now comes in handy because even though we have our focus on wine and gastronomy, the Piedmont lover also chooses for winter activities. But wine and gastronomy are always around the corner.

What are the advantages of our location?  You are at the highest point of Bardonecchia and can actually spend your holiday in style for a very interesting budget.

Of course you need a flight but then you can choose to take a private shuttle to the hotel or a transfer to the train station Porta Nuova and then by train go to Bardonecchia.  Just to the gondola and then all the way to the top of the Bardonecchia mountains. Attention: the gondola on the picture is not the gondola with which you go upstairs with large luggage. It's completely closed of course, but the view remains sublime!

Breath-taking scenario!

The private shuttle will of course take less time but will also cost a little more. The private shuttle goes directly from the airport to the hotel, via bus-train-gondola you need a bit more time.

Why is this location so overwhelming?

You're really in the middle of the natural elements, mountains all around you that are far above the top of the hotel. If you're not a ski fan - count me among them - you can take a 10-km snowshoe course along the most beautiful scenarios you can imagine as nature lover. The ski rental, the gondola, the start of the ski slope is just in front of the hotel. This is the outside scenario but also inside there is something to do.

That's why this hotel really makes the difference!  Most rooms also have a kitchenette that is located behind a wall that you can turn into a dining room in a few seconds.  Don't you want to eat every day in the restaurant of the hotel or the higher or lower pizzeria?  Simply take the gondola, go to the nicest shops in Bardonecchia centre and start your own dinner: cold with cheeses and salame or warm with the best local ingredients.

The hotel offers for a very limited budget, namely 20 €, the use of all their wellness facilities such as swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna etc....

What appealed to me the most was the cleanliness of the rooms, the versatility of turning your night room into a day room with a living room, kitchen and dining room in no time at all. Most hotel rooms also have a balcony and how intense it is to experience the illuminated mountains, to enjoy a good glass of wine and to be intensely happy...  Just a moment or two.

big, easy to reach Italian ski resort

Bardonecchia is a relatively unknown area for winter athletes from the Netherlands and Belgium. That's a pity, because this snow-sure and fairly large area has a lot to offer skiers and snowboarders. For an area on the south side of the Alps, it is also fairly easy to reach, only on highways.

just across the border

Bardonecchia is located just across the border from France in Italy. In fact, it is an extension of the Maurienne valley just on the other side of Fréjus. The area can be reached quickly via the Fréjus tunnel and extremely easily (and quickly) with a TGV from Paris. Also, flying to Turin is a good option to quickly get to this southern area.

Wide Area

Bardonecchia is a fairly large ski area with enough slopes for a fun holiday. During the Olympic Winter Games of 2006, there were also a number of competitions in  Bardonecchia. All snowboarding disciplines were carried out in the snowpark. A total of 3.5 kilometres of slopes are reserved for freestylers with a multitude of boxes, rails and kickers, and the area also has an Olympic half-pipe which unfortunately is not always well prepared.

Highest point: 2807m
   Lowest point: 1312m
